Individually Designed Website Service what is it?

This is a complete service from the initial designing and building of your website to the continued hosting of your website on the Internet. This services includes the registration of a domain name such as www.yourwebsite.co.uk if you do not already have one.

Designing and building

The website will be individually designed to your requirements. You will be able to view progress right through the design and build stage and change anything that you do not like. A security login will ensure that the website remains hidden to all others until you have approved it for release onto the Internet.

Search Engine Optimisation methods will be used to help your site to be found by customers searching for you or your services. Once your site is live it will be submitted to the main UK Internet search providers, Google, Yahoo, AOL etc., requesting them to include your site in their listings.

Also included in the cost is the conversion of your photographs, drawings, graphics etc. into internet quality images for inclusion on the site. If you do not have suitable images I can supply these for you. Go to the images page to find out more. I can also supply individually designed location maps.

Hosting

All websites are hosted on servers protected against interruption of service. These are located in a secure purpose built UK data centre. A backup copy of your website is also held at a completely different location. Your annual running costs pay for this service and also includes any upgrades necessary to keep the website up to date. Also included are incidental changes to the content of your website. See "Making changes" below.

Making changes

From time to time you may want to make incidental changes to the content of your website. Such changes are included in the annual running costs of your website. If you need to make frequent, regular or planned changes to your website, I can supply a unique Online Update System which allows you to make changes as often as you like for a single annual fee.

Statistics

Detailed monthly statistics about your website can be supplied. These will tell you how many visitors you had, when you were visited, which pages they looked at, the website or method that they used to get to you or find you, which page they started at, which page they left at and more. You can have this emailed to you monthly to enable you to get a full picture of your site's usage throughout the year. Alternatively you can request a single months statistics at any time, which is useful if you have recently been featured in a paper or magazine or have used some new advertising and wish to see the effect that it had on your website.

Domain names

All websites need a domain name, such as www.yourwebsite.co.uk. If you do not already have one, the name you choose will be registered to you through the official registrars. It will then become your property. An annual fee is then payable to the registrars. This fee will be added to the annual running costs of your website.

If you are a UK based company or organisation you should consider having a UK domain name although there is nothing to stop you choosing to have an international one although these are more expensive.

UK domain names end with:
.co.uk - for use by UK businesses
.org.uk - for use by UK charitable or non profit making organisations

International domain names end with:
.com - for use by businesses
.biz - for use by businesses
.org - for use by charitable or non profit making organisations
.net - for use by internet services

If you are a UK based charitable or non profit making organisation and choose a .org.uk domain name you will receive a discount in your design and build charges. See prices below.

If you have already registered a domain name elsewhere, you can use that instead. It can simply be 'diverted' to your new website. This will make no difference at all to the operation of the website. I can do this for you or tell you how to do it. In this case you would continue to pay your annual charges for the name to your original registration company.

Contact

If you require an email address, you can have one based on your domain name. For example yourname@yourwebsite.co.uk.

Domain name based email addresses can be accessed as WebMail* from any computer and or by using Outlook Express or Windows Live Mail or other email programs that download your emails to your computer.
*The webmail system is supplied by Open-Xchange.

Or for simplicity you may prefer to keep using your existing email address.

Whatever option you choose, links or buttons can be provided for your customers to email you direct from your website.

An alternative to displaying your email address on your website is the option of using an online form. This can be a simple message form or perhaps a product enquiry form. Online forms can be more useful than an email because they can contain boxes designed to request the exact information that you need. Your website visitors simply fill in the boxes and press the send button. The contents of the form is then sent to any email address that you specify.

The use of an online form can be more secure than displaying your email address on your website. Because the sender cannot see the email address that the form is sent to, it cannot be collected and used by spammers. If you suspect that the sender of a form is not genuine, you do not need to reply to it.
